SB 7026 is a BIll written by the Senate Rules Committee and is summarized as:
“Public Safety; Citing this act as the “Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act”; authorizing the awarding of grants through the Crime Stoppers Trust Fund for student crime watch programs; establishing the Office of Safe Schools within the Department of Education; prohibiting a person who has been adjudicated mentally defective or been committed to a mental institution from owning or possessing a firearm until certain relief is obtained; prohibiting a person younger than a certain age from purchasing a firearm; prohibiting specified acts relating to the sale and possession of bump-fire stocks; creating the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission within the Department of Law Enforcement, etc. APPROPRIATION: $400,000,000.00”
This bill has undergone 151 Amendments! It is nothing like the originally intended bill and restricts many rights of law-abiding Florida Citizens.
But the true meat of the bill does many things not listed in the summary. If you read the bill to find out what it actually does, you would find the following:
Establishes voluntary armed teacher program (great idea!) Establishes mental health care program for schools to recognize symptoms of possible unstable students. Creates a government commission and a new state-level department to deal with school safety. Prohibits purchase of ANY firearm by anyone under 21 years of age. Imposes a 3-day waiting period on the purchase of ANY firearm with some exceptions. Makes possession or sale of bump-stocks illegal. If you are caught with one you commit a Felony. Allows confiscation of firearms without due process in Baker Act cases. These things are not what freedom loving Floridians should want!
In addition where is the $400,000,000 to come from? Of course, it is from the Florida Taxpayers.
It is time to stop this insanity of knee-jerk, emotionally driven legislation and to let your legislators know what you think of this and other rights restricting bills that will do NOTHING TO STOP MASS MURDERERS.
Please take the time to write to these Senators and tell them that you strongly oppose SB 7026! And that you also oppose any further restrictions on the law-abiding firearms owners rights in Florida. It is not the law-abiding owners that should be restricted!

As a law-abiding firearms owner in the state of Florida and member of the Florida Firearms Coalition, I am very concerned that SB 7026 is nothing more than a further restriction of my rights and the rights of Floridas millions of legal firearms owners.
We are tired of being punished for the crimes of evil people. We are tired of being blamed for the actions of a very few people who do not represent the millions of us who own and carry firearms for self-protection and break no laws.
Please oppose SB 7026 and any of its 150+ amendments. Any bill that needs to have that many amendments cannot be considered to be well written or thought out.
